Course Overview

This course is designed for those who want to go deeper in the understanding of regenerative design. Together, we will put theory into practice, experimenting with different aspects of Permaculture Design.

Wether you have done a PDC course and want to learn more or you are the "learning by doing" type of person, this course is the perfect way to get grounded learning that is not just based on theory! If you are new to this world, we will go from the ground up and if you have a solid interest in the topic you are most welcome!

The program

If you are serious about learning something, there is no better way than getting your hands dirty and doing it!

Here is a list of the topics that we will cover during our time together:

- How to implement a new agroforestry system

- How to implement a new market garden

- Mushroom production

- Composting and waste management

- Water retention features through earthworks

- Group dynamics and Social Permaculture

Note that the exact topics covered during the course will depend on weather conditions, machinery availability and group needs/requests.

The venue

Fazenda Compadres is a market gardening and agroforestry farm that Eduardo Terzidis has been managing for the last year. It is a great example of the early stages of regenerative agriculture, and it already presents many interesting elements showing the benefits of this practice. The farm is a sister project of Mushroom Compadres, and the two businesses operate with a circular model. The waste products from the mushroom factory are brought to the farm and turned into fertiliser - which is the only input the soil receives.

The goal of the farm is to produce food to run the local food truck and to supply a CSA initiative - delivering vege boxes to local families. Some herbal agroforestry systems will also be implemented to supply the herbal apothecary that will soon be opened on the site.

During the week, we will also visit some neighbouring projects, to see other agroforestry and water retention systems.

Eduardo Terzidis is a storyteller with an ecological heart. As an engineer, he wanted to help the world, yet he felt the need to “be out there”, learning and sharing with the very people who seek the same change he envisioned. Today he focuses on teaching and managing consulting projects as well as producing films and books. His portfolio gathers many successful projects around Europe including commercial farms, private gardens, food systems and water systems.

Jack Hodgson is a qualified Permaculture Designer from London. He ran his own Permaculture No Dig Market Garden in Greater London for 4 years supplying the local community, markets and chefs his beyond organic produce.

He now runs an urban project where he grows microgreens and mushrooms in a 20ft shipping container, which he specialises in teaching others how to grow. He currently teaches and consults for a variety of projects.

Oli Inglis grew up on his families farm in a rural area of Northern Italy. His early experience with rearing livestock, foraging and producing their own food has led to a lifetime of knowledge of living off the land and working in tandem with nature. In recent years, he has worked on regenerating spaces and providing climate adapted solutions in a variety of landscapes affected by climate change.
