The property
The client reached out after a devastating fire burnt their land entirely. The vegetation was completely gone, and with every rain the soil was swept away leaving huge erosion channels behind.
Design goals
The main goals for this design were:
- To promptly develop emergency solutions to stop the erosion and help the land recover
- To design water features that could hydrate the landscape while also prevent potential future fires
- To integrate agroforestry systems and vegetation in the design of the earthworks
- To provide the client with a masterplan with all the potential water features that they could implement in the upcoming years

The earthworks
This particular project was very implementation heavy, and a lot of the features designed digitally had to be re-evaluated and adjusted once on the fields.
In around 5 days of work, we measured the site, prepared it and implemented the following features:
- A dam in one of the most critical areas of the land in terms of erosion
- One tilted terrace that collected water from the road and infiltrated it onto the closest ridge
- A sediment trap that filtered any sediment coming from the road
- A swale that collected water on the lowest point of the system
- Appropriate rock-lined spillways for all of the above features
